When to Go to Curaçao: Weather and the Best Time to Visit, Month by Month

Good news: in Curaçao, the weather is great almost all year round. The island has a dry tropical climate, with sunshine, heat and steady trade winds that keep the temperatures pleasant.

But depending on what matters most to you (the best prices, the fewest crowds, the calmest sea), some periods are better than others. Here’s the rundown.

Curaçao's climate at a glance

  • 🌡️ Air temperature: around 27–29 °C (81–84 °F) on average all year, with afternoons often topping 30 °C (86 °F).
  • 🌊 Water temperature: roughly 26–29 °C (79–84 °F).
  • 🌬️ Wind: the trade winds blow from the east almost constantly, a little stronger early in the year and in summer. They keep you cool, but can make the sea choppy on the east and north coasts.
  • 🌧️ Rain: the island is arid. The “wettest” period runs roughly from October to January, mostly with short showers, often followed by sunshine.

What about hurricanes?

🌀 Outside the main hurricane belt

Curaçao lies south of the area most exposed to hurricanes, which makes it a much safer bet than many Caribbean islands between June and November. That said, it isn't completely immune: a storm passing to the north can bring heavy rain or rough seas. As anywhere, make sure you have good travel insurance.

High season: mid-December to April

This is the busiest time of year: the European and North American winter, the year-end holidays and Carnival (before Lent), the island’s biggest party. Expect dry, sunny weather, but also higher prices, more crowds and more cruise ships in Willemstad. Book your accommodation, rental car and tours early.

Low season: May to November

This is our favorite time to go: it’s warm, the sea is often gorgeous, and prices drop on flights and accommodation. September and October are among the hottest and least windy months – perfect for diving and snorkeling, a bit less so for long walks in the midday sun.

July and August bring European vacationers, especially from the Netherlands, so book a little ahead.

The best time for what you want to do

🤿 Diving and snorkeling: all year round, with the calmest and warmest water usually from late August to November.

🏝️ Klein Curaçao: all year round, but the crossing is more comfortable when the trade winds ease off.

🥾 Hiking (Mount Christoffel): all year round – always very early in the morning.

💵 On a budget: May to November, outside the summer holidays.

🎉 Party atmosphere: Carnival season.

Our tips

  • The sun is strong all year: sunscreen, a hat and staying hydrated are essential.
  • Days last about 12 hours year-round, with sunset between roughly 6:15 and 7 pm depending on the season.
  • Pack a light jacket for windy evenings and air-conditioned spaces.
